Dr. Stephen G. Pothier

Nick Harper's wealthy friend, Dr. Stephen G. Pothier, passed away on November 30, 2009 after recently being diagnosed with brain cancer. Due to his love of science, his body was donated to George Washington University Medical Center. Steve was a Delta Airline Pilot and Senior Research Scientist at George Washington University.

Steve was preceded in death by his parents, Ethel and Ernie Pothier. He is survived by his loving wife of 10 years, Kara Pothier and two sisters; Terry and her husband, Arthur McGeown, Sandy and her husband Ken Mills; and two brothers, Bill Pothier and John Pothier and his two children, Michelle and Stephen.

There will be no memorial service. Instead, there will be a celebration of Steve's life on Dec. 9th at the Tonic Restaurant in D.C. The restaurant is generously providing their 3rd floor alcove at no charge beginning 4:00 pm. In lieu of flowers, donations are encouraged to be sent in Steve's memory to the following organizations:

The National Brain Tumor Society
East Coast Office
124 Watertown Street, Suite D
Watertown, MA 02474
The Port Townsend High School Wrestling Club
Port Townsend School District
450 Fir Street
Port Townsend, WA 98368

You may find postings on the internet directing you to send your donations for the PT wrestling club to Nick Harper at 1865 West Uncas. Before doing so, you should know that Nick recently filed bankruptcy and in doing so, discharged a $30K debt in which a very good friend of his (at the time) loaned him that money so he could open his restaurant, MacAdoo's which is now defunct and has a tax lien against it. Nick never paid his very generous "good friend" (who used money she inherited from her father's death) a cent of her money back and she is now facing bankruptcy herself.

The property Nick presently lives on was purchased by Steve for $342K just days before Nick filed for bankruptcy. He even got his friend, Steve, to purchase a NEW mobile home for him and increase the debt owed to $363K. It will be interesting to see what happens to the property now that Steve is gone.

Nick is also managing a $1.5 million dollar building at 825 Water Street that Steve purchased in Port Townsend. But I think it's only a matter of time before a new building manager is in place. It's obvious by Steve's generosity towards Nick, that he didn't have a clue what his friend was capable of. My husband, Shawn Monahan, trusted Nick too; that trust led to Nick having an affair with Shawn's wife and ultimately stealing Shawn's family.
